Dictatorships ? You know, the great maker getting rid of these earth tyrants is all well and true to prophecy, but as with now in Burma, it is far too severe do you not think? I can work with an angry God, but not a cruel one. What the hell is going down ?
What are some instances in which dictatorships have been successful? One example is Stalin as he completely changed the Soviet Union's economy (for the better)! Any more examples/arguments I can use to suppport dictatorships? *EDIT Maybe not completely succesful but succesful in some manner or aspect. Not all governments are perfect i just need some aspects of society/economy that have improved because of a dictatorship.
How do dictatorships affect human rights? Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any general points and/or examples of how dictators may affect human rights. Also things like freedom of speech and expression. Many thanks.
Why do communist countries always devolve into authoritarian dictatorships? There are endless examples of this, the USSR, China, North Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, etc. Why do they so quickly abandoned their idealistic goal of establishing a classless, stateless society based on common ownership of the means of production? Instead they make a society that's quite the opposite. Is it because that communism has some good ideas on paper, but it can't be implement on a large scale?
Why do people think dictatorships are the worst system of government? Why do people think dictatorships are bad? Weren't kings, emperors and chiefs dictators? Aren't most companies dictatorships? If Democracy is vulnerable to people voting in leaders that will open the treasury to everyone, isn't that a conflict of interest? Wouldn't that ensure the system will eventually fail? Why does everyone assume every dictatorship operates like Nazi Germany, Iraq under Saddam, or Stalin? Good people can lead a country too and be dictators. I'm sure there are many examples in history. I'm wondering who exactly democracy benefits? I think it favors business and corporations, while weakening governments and leaders. I'm purely speculating here. Do the math, is Democracy eventually doomed to falter, logically? Like it or not, will a dictatorship eventually take precedent as the primary system of leadership in any society ? When presidents take over in wartime and refuse to relinquish power, isn't that admitting that the system in place doesn't work?
Why do Republicans always confuse socialism with dictatorships? Why can't they see that Bush is every bit the Dictator that Hillary is the socialist? Communism is a method of government control and is not synonymous with socialism which is an economic structure that can exist within a democracy... GOSH - propaganda really does work on ignorant people, doesn't it?
Can Islamic societies only function as autocracies or dictatorships? It seems so. But here's a paradox. Islam, the religion of "peace" displays horrendous internal violence between fellow-Muslims, and antagonism externally. Before the Crusades Islamic societies were marvelously tolerant and intellectually active far beyond Europe, but seem now hostile to all dissent, and subject to barbarisms under Sharia law. Islam is apparently not hierarchical itself, like Christianity (with Pope and similar sectarian structures etc) but it now seems to produce social structures of exclusive dominance consistently. Yet Christianity, which is essentially hierarchical, proselytizing, exclusive and competitive, has spawned open, secular, and democratic societies, embracing difference. Is this just because Islam is younger by 400 years or more?
Should dictatorships and human rights abusing regimes be barred from hosting the Olympics? This has been one of the most controversial games in history. Many people now admit it was a huge mistake to give the games to China due to their abuses, oppression and violence towards Tibetans and democracy activists. To ensure the games are not turned into a joke again should the IOC bar dictatorships and human rights abusing regimes from hosting the games?
Star Wars "Imperial March" used as a metaphor for real world dictatorships - explain? How did the 'Imperial March' from Star Wars become a popular metaphor for real-world dictatorial regimes? A lot of mock videos use it to paint a politician as authoritarian. (When Hugo Chavez tried to expand his powers last year, some web sites said "Cue the imperial march!") It's obvious that the Galactic Empire was totalitarian, but why THIS music of all the hundreds of themes they could have used?
Why are corporations organized like dictatorships? Inside any corporation or company there is a strict centralized control. like in Communist China or North Korea. The CEO rules like a monarch and the board is not elected by the workers or employees of the company. Isn't it time to introduce democracy into the corporate world? Let's make CEOs and boards electable by the employess. Corporations should act like Western democracies, not like Communist dictatorships! Do you agree?
Do you think there is a connection between dictatorships and cultural slavery? In countries where parents and families micromanage people's lives by forcing them to marry whom they want, choosing the careers that the parents want the child to have, forcing them to stay with spouses that the child doesn't want to be married to,etc... , do most of these countries also have dictatorships and oppressive governments? Do you also see a connection between violence in the home and cultural slavery? In other words, does the family mirror the oppressive regime that runs the government? By the way, NOBODY is saying there is a connection between race and cultural slavery. Cultural slavery is found in ALL races and religions. Moreover, this is about CULTURAL slavery, which is people oppressing their own people, not outsiders oppressing them. Please read carefully!!!
Can dictatorships turn into democracies gradually with help? Has it been done? Could it be? Would it be a more beneficial process than creating chaos then trying to organise it? thanks for your answers _ baldguy642000, I like your answer greatly. If such a thing can exist, popular democracy may be imagined to include freedom of information. The propaganda involved in the rise of an elected dictator is a central consideration in such a transition.
