What are some instances in which dictatorships have been successful?
One example is Stalin as he completely changed the Soviet Union's economy (for the better)! Any more examples/arguments I can use to suppport dictatorships? *EDIT Maybe not completely succesful but succesful in some manner or aspect. Not all governments are perfect i just need some aspects of society/economy that have improved because of a dictatorship.

- Yeah at the cost of murdering millions of his own people. I wouldn't call that success.
- The Bush administration. Oh wait, that has been a disaster.
- Stalin was hardly sucessful, his people suffered miserably in poverty and killed millions in a wave of purges. Stalin would later be denounced by the former USSR for the suffering he brought upon his people.
- The problem with Stalin's economic system is that the Soviet Union cannot produce enough food for itself as he destroyed their agriculture sector by nationalizing farms and that it eventually collapsed in the 1980's. No economy that can't feed its own people is successful.
- It depends on your measure of success. If success is dying of natural causes while still in control, there are many. If success is measured by bringing a better life, prosperity, and happiness to your people, there are precious few.
- Hitler had a very successful dictatorship. Unemployment fell dramatically, although admittedly that is partially because no Jews were accounted for, but other than that it did actually fall. He had the Youth working from 16-18 (I think) building roads etc. It made them healthy people who were fit enough for the army I won't ramble on, but almost everything except the lives of Jews improved.
- How do you define success? Any government, whether in a democracy or not, eventually falls. Some dictatorships have lasted a long, long time. Look at Castro in Cuba. He only left power because of his health and its still basically the same regime with him gone.
- All the ones that don't get overthrown. China. Mao Tsetung
- When you murder millions of people, it is easy to provide jobs and increase the appearance of an increased economy but behind the scenes there were the forced labor camps and starving people. He called them "purges" when he murdered even his own party collaborators. The liberals would be the FIRST to go in this country if someone like Stalin took over, but yet they are so enthralled with :Marxism which would destroy them.
