What would happen if finally world leaders came together and decided to start world economies afresh?
Just imagine if world leaders decided that enough is enough and put a stop to wars, decided to help each other's nations and fixed every currency to be all the same. Don't you think people will be satisefied?

- No...we will still have human inhabitant's that want class divisions (aka the rich), racism, hatred, etc...Great idea, but everyone would need to change their views to accommodate the new economy/idealistic society...
- The first answer is very wise. I also would love to believe world peace is possible.
- No I don't think that would work. Unfortunately, it would just raise the world to another tier of disagreements.
- No. Your question assumes it is only the rich and powerful who decides whether there is prosperity or not, where the mass of people are good and saintly. In reality, this power resides in every person, in some people more than others. Wealth is produced by individuals. Ideally, each person works and keeps the fruit of his labors. In practice, individuals organize themselves into groups so as to produce. It is difficult to measure individual contributions, to decide how much each person should be paid. Each person thinks himself as overworked and underpaid, and salary is an issue to negotiate. Further, there is a minority willing to do anything, moral or not, to get what they see as their fair share. These people are all over the map, not only among the powerful or the mass of people. It is this minority who stands in the way of prosperity.
- If all currencies were fixed relative to each other they would have values that did not relate to the the state of their respective countries' economies. This would deprive individual economies of the interactive balancing adjustments that variable exchange rate mechanisms eventually bring.
